Well I guess being my very first blog it would be appropriate to tell you how Wendy’s Wine Wednesday all started. Firstly, this is not (just) about wine. It is about food and family and the joy of gathering the people we love together and having a good meal and a glass of wine. I am not one of the sniff, swirl and swish tribe. I simply like a young pinot grigio (in other words – grapes picked yesterday) and I only really drink on a Wednesday when the fam comes together – which has given birth to the name.
When I retired a couple of years ago I was able to start taking a bit more time over the evening meal. I had become very disillusioned with the cooking shows on television, which made me feel inferior as a cook, but I wanted to try recipes from the myriad of cook books and Delicious Magazines that I had accumulated over the years. I was keen to be a bit ambitious but not over the top. I was tired of the same old meat and veg dinners I had been putting on the table for so long. And, of course, the other thing was that I wanted to have a family dinner night where we gathered once a week to have a laugh and a glass of wine. I have three sons, two daughter-in-laws, a “practically” son-in-law and two grandsons. However they are not all in town together very often so everyone knows that Wednesday nights are always on and if they are around, they will come. Now, my boys enjoy food and are happy to experiment but not so my husband – he likes “meat and veg and more meat” and whilst that is easy it is boring! Hence, from this point forward my darling husband will be referred to as MAV – meat and veg! There are times when he is not very keen on what is being cooked for Wine Wednesday but so be it, we love him anyway!
The Wednesday nights started to become a real hit with the family and extended family. People wanted to know what we were trying each week and they would hint heavily for an invite. It has been fun and my youngest son suggested I start taking photos and blogging about it. I want to make it clear at this point that I am not a trained Chef or Cook just someone trying to muddle along and I will make mistakes but I hope that by sharing those with you we all learn from them and have some fun in the process. SO, here we are.
Stay tuned,
From my table to yours with love
Wendy
